I hope this help some of the readers that could not come to a conclusion as I did.

I'm glad that we all have the option to do as we please but those filters scare me. If they let in more air they also let in more dirt. Ask your trained and skilled local mechanic and they will tell you not to use them.Rayven01 wrote:...Since the filtering efficiency is demonstrably (96-99% vs 99%+) worse and I got no other gains I decided to go back to paper. Who knows, the filtering may come down to particles so small they don't even matter but I figure better safe than sorry.
Just an FYI, but the oiling issues do not come from the initial factory oiling of the filter (obviously K&N knows what they're doing). It comes from the vehicle owner re-oiling their own filter and unknowingly adding too much oilvibelo wrote:I also removed the air filter components such as box, hose, throttle body and could not find any evidence on oil coming off the filter coating these items as previously mentioned on some of the threads about the K&N filters.

I've run k&n filters on my and my parents cars for the last decade with no issues.
If you replace your paper filter twice, you've paid for a k&n drop in. For me, its not about MPG or power, its about saving money on throw away filters.
