Etching from Bugs

Hey everyone,

So, I bought my 05 pontiac vibe in the met black finish and absolutely love the car. What i'm not loving about the car is the white bug splatter marks left on the front grill. I am afraid that bugs have etched through the clear coat. I've tried just about everything I can think of, wet drier sheets, bug and tar remover, rubbing compound, polishing compound, etc. On very close inspection, you can see that there are no bug guts on the car to come off, but in fact, it looks as though the bugs have made their way through the clear coat. My question is, does anyone know of a way that might help me repair my car to its former glory short of having the entier bumper repainted? Is wet sanding with a 2000grit sandpaper a little bit then hitting it with some polish a good idea? If anyone has had any experience with this matter, your help is super welcomed and appreciated. thanks for the help.
