2009 GT - Power door lock failures

Post by zoommsp »

I've owned this car for 3 years, nearly 80,000 miles I have put on and I have headlight bulbs that have lasted longer than my power door locks!

Using the key fob, push unlock, door tries to unlock and can't. If door is unlocked and I use the fob, it won't lock. Then the battery keeps trying to lock the door and kills the battery. If I manually <with key> lock or unlock the door, it works.

So far, I've replaced the drivers side door one already with a dealer part at 65K miles. I currently just rolled over 96K and can no longer handle the fact that my Front Pass lock and Rear Drivers side lock are now acting the same way. Has anyone come across this and used an aftermarket part to fix it? I do not want to pay 220 a piece for the two lock modules (i believe they are called). Just looking for some ideas before I rip the door panels off and start this process again this weekend. I've seen some stuff on autozone, advanced auto, oreillys and bumper to bumper, but either they don't have pictures, or the pictures don't look like what I had replaced on the drivers side and that makes me iffy on purchasing and winging it.

Mine seem to fail during the summer heat. I'm not really sure whats going on but glad to see its not just me. Mine don't all fail at once, its always just one or two at a time. Always a different lock. Mine lock, which doesn't work, and then will try again by itself. After the second try it stops. I have to manually push the locks so I know its not the fob. It was last summer (third year of ownership) that it started. Do yours seem completely intermittent or does it seem like temperature plays a factor?

I have had intermittent probs with all 4 of my 03 door locks ever since I have owned it. It was quite annoying. Finally the front driver & passenger door lock actuator finally died. I replaced them both from rock auto. Paid about 120 each. I did the driver side first then the pass side a couple of months later. just 2 months ago the rear driver side wasnt working & started working again. Im not going to even bother with the rears if they go. I have sound deadening that im not going to take off to repair it :| Not a difficult job at all. Hardest part was figuring out how to remove the inside door handle to remove the cables. Nice having working power door locks now 8-)

Mine start out as intermittent and seems always during the winter months. It is now warming up here, we've seen 80s and they still don't work. The two I described do not work at all. And I know its not the fob.

I checked Rock Auto, but they don't seem to have that part for the new bodystyle Vibe... not sure if there is a difference between to two bodystyles. If you have an image of the ones you installed, that may help out.

I'm just not sure what to do. I've owned 8 cars, many upwards of of 150K miles and none of them had this happen, so I'm a little put off right now.

scroll down to my post. That is the driver side actuator. I remember when i bought the part from rock auto i was able to get a pic of the actuator. Its probably better than what i have here. I have no idea if the parts are similar from gen 1 to gen 2.

Interesting observation just TODAY on Junior's Blue 09 Vibe GT (current mileage 44k). Was loading him up for a trip to the lake when out of nowhere the drivers door ONLY locked itself. Don't know when BUT we had the entire car unlocked as we were constantly opening & closing doors/hatch etc. as we loaded it up. I then simply went to the pass side switch & unlocked it. Stayed unlocked until he drove off. This NEVER done this before. Maybe certain Vibes have a "ghost" hiding inside them :?

Thats exactly what was happening to me. The locks would work for a while, then not work for a while...then they just totally stop working after a year or so. For me, im sure it wasnt temperature related cause its always hot in florida
