Stereo upgrade

Post by stevepayette »

Hi guys,

I'm a new vibe owner (2005 base), and new to the boards, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm looking to upgrade the stock audio system to something a bit better quality, with an aux in. Did some googling but I always prefer to get some human input when possible, so if anyone can help it's much appreciated. I'm thinking of buying:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030N ... TEG7T8P2CK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002B ... PDKIKX0DER" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007K ... PDKIKX0DER" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Am I missing anything for the install? And does anyone have input on that stereo? This is my first time ever working on car audio so I want to try and avoid any nasty surprises. I read through sublimewinds' tutorial, so I think I'm well prepared, but confirmation that I'm not missing anything would awesome.

Thanks for the help!

I think you're good there, though my harness actually came with the antenna adaptor included... Scosche branded and bought at Walmart. I did look at an E2 branded harness at Canadian tire and it also included the adaptor.

I looked up your exact model on the crutchfield site. It is 114.99 shipped with all the mounting hardware, wiring goodies and instruction sheets needed (your prices with Amazon assuming you have a Prime account is $110.01). The bonus is that you get outstanding lifetime technical support.

I've bought several stereos from them and recommended them to many folks. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them. I have a Kenwood with a similar feature set in my 05 Vibe. It was a snap to install. I have a Dual (again, similar feature set) in my 03 Ram that has been in 4 different cars. Every time I want to move my stereo, I give Crutchfield a call and they know what equipment I have and are able to send me the correct pigtail and bracketry at very reasonable prices. The best part though is that when you need help (like when I installed a DVD player in my brother's Sienna), I got someone on the phone and they quickly walked me through the issues I was having. The tech support is phenomenal.

I love Amazon (I'm a Prime member). I just purchased roof rack cross bars through them (wish me luck - didn't get them yet) as well as a Goodyear Gator serpentine belt, cabin filter, air filter, fog lights (30-some bucks each). You kinda can't go too far wrong ordering from Amazon but when it comes to car stereos, Crutchfield is where it's at.

Looks good, Pioneer HU are always nice in my experience. What is this tutorial you referred to? An installation guide? Do you have a link?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and ordered the parts, and picked em up from my brother in the states this weekend. Planning to go ahead with the install next weekend hopefully. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

The tutorial I was referring to is this one:

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=24704" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hopefully it's enough to get me through this install.

Wish me luck!
