Horn doesn't work

Post by SteveDave »

Hello,
I have been having a few problems with my 04' Vibe. currently my horn stopped working, and the check engine light are on. Everything was working fine up until this week. I tried my horn after being cut-off the road the other day, but to no avail it did not work. When I got home I pressed the horn in every spot...still nothing! I gave up shortly after and figured I would get it fixed sometime soon. I took it to my mechanic the same day I noticed, but he told me it would be $100 to fix. I took it home without getting the repair, and now my Check Engine Light is coming up. I believe the two are related somehow, but I am not for certain. If anyone else has had similar problems it would be great to get some help! Thank you :)

Also in-case anyone was wondering my Vibe has 212,160 miles, which is mostly Highway miles. My uncle used this car strictly to go to work and back. I just received this car June 7th 2012.

I would drop by your local auto parts store (advance auto parts, autozone, etc) and ask to use their diagnostic scanner to read the CEL code. Let us know what the code is and we can likely help further.

It appears as though I fixed the CEL problem. The last person to fill my gas tank didn't screw the gas cap all the way. That was the first thing I did after reading similar CEL problems here, and after threes time of driving around it didn't turn back on! :D Yet the horn still does not work. Could it be a blown fuse, or a faulty wire? :|

Thank you for the help btw! :D

Check the fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay

Check to make sure the power wire is still attached. You should be able to stick a hand behind the grill to give the wire a tug

Well I fixed it! It was the power wire. It seemed to have been bent up, I straightened it. Then I threw some electrical tape on it, and good as new! Now I just have to take my vibe in at the end of the month to have it serviced for a recall I received in the mail the other day. What a joy! :P

Thanks again for all of your help!
