Blown cig. fuse, diagram needed.

Post by Chiadog »

The cigarette lighter fuse (15A) blew yesterday in my 2005 base vibe. It blew again immediately upon replacing it. Appears to be a direct short in the circuit. I think I am only missing power to the lighter and the radio, everything else seems to be working-including radio illumination. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of this circuit?
I struck out with my local library and it is not shown in the Haynes manual.
Thanks,
chiadog :(

make sure there isn't anything left inside the cig lighter receptacle that could cause the short.

Diagram? or can someone tell me exactly what circuits/accessories the CIG fuse powers? No rush - too cold to work in unheated garage, 3deg. F. right now!

The wiring diagrams that are available are really poor at answering the top down question of what is powered by a specific fuse. They do better with questions from the bottom up, such as what fuses are involved in powering the X device.

The CIG fuse powers the radio and the Cig power outlet. It might power something else, but I don't know what that might be.

Power goes from battery through CIG fuse through ignition switch to radio and outlet. Unlikely that the radio or ignition switch or wiring is shorted out, all of a sudden without you doing anything that might cause such a thing to happen.

The cig lighter sockets in Vibes, on the other hand, have a history of shorting out. replace or disconnect yours, see if that removes the short.

Thanks Joatman!
It's still too nasty outside for to mess with it. Do you know if I have to tear into the dash to simply disconnect/cut the cigarette lighter wire?

Thanks Strangerxp,
I was still looking for this! Definitely more complex than I thought. Do you know what the P/POINT relay is?
Thanks again,

interesting that the diagram doesn't show the CIG fuse powering the radio

P/POINT is the power outlet in the console between the seats. that outlet isn't there by default in 05-08 vibes, but the relay and wiring is, which is why its easy to add a 12V outlet there. (http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13711" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) The P/POINT relay is above the glove box. Joatmon I saw your other post, and are great, relay bypass it's a great idea.
