2005 Vibe Driving Noise

Post by brad09821 »

Hey guys. It's my first time posting, so please go easy. I tried to search for this answer, but I couldn't find it. My wifes car has a driving noise while driving straight or turning to the left. However, when she turns right, the noise stops. I have come across the posts for wheel bearings and this may appear to be the problem. The big question is, how much to have a shop replace them? (a guesstimate will work) Thanks in advance for taking the time to help.

Classic symptom of a bad wheel bearing, right side is bad if I remember correctly! Cost?, Don't know. I haven't had to replace one on the Vibe yet.
Always replaced my own on my Saturn. I would pull off the hub assembly, buy the bearing and have a machine shop press in the new bearing. Usually cost about $50.00 on the Saturn.
Make sure you know which bearing is bad before you take it in! Many mechanics "accidentally" replace the wrong side first, then say they must have BOTH been bad.
Good luck,

yes, make sure to determine exactly which side is going bad. weird things about toyotas is that the actual wheel bearing going bad is the 'opposite' of conventional wisdom. so be careful.

Thanks bluneon. Any ideas on what I may be looking at as far as cost at a garage to get this taken care of?
