2009 GT - replacing the hood rod for a hydraulic strut?

Post by wpgpolice »

Hey, I really hate having the Rod holding the hood. I was wondering if anyone has changed this to a hydraulic strut, and it so where can I pick one up and install it myself with instructions?

I looked into it since I too am annoyed by prop rods. There are aftermarket kits available for the 03-08s but these do not fit the 09s (I actually found a post somewhere by someone who was re-selling them because he tried it and the hydraulics were too long). It still might be possible if you determined the right length and bought them separately but I didn't want to risk possibly wasting the money.

Hmmmmm ...... sounds like a challenge. EVERYTHING fits, it's just a matter of how you have to "relocate" the other stuff that gets in the way  If someone has a kit for the older Vibes, I'd like to see this kit and do some preliminary measurements and load calculations (weight of supporting the hood). I'm sure there is a way. Give me a few years as I really need to get my shop back together, finish up the wife's honeydo list, and get back on my LED's projects first :o
