Welp...More wheel bearings

Post by clownshoes »

Ok,

So, more wheel bearing noise. Don't know where it's coming from. Front I think.

Back to the garage tomorow. Hopefully its the same one that I had replaced and it'll get done under warranty. Most likely not. We'll find out what else is messed up.

This suspension is taking a beating for only highway driving.

I doubt I can get pics. It'll try though.

Ooops... can mods move this to the suspension forum.

probably just another wheel bearing.. I'm in Kingston and this winter sure did take a beating on my vibe. I'm getting my wheel bearing (front) replaced this week. Has a ton of play but only recently started making noise. Good luck with the fix.

Welp....looks like its the front wheel bearing as well. It was making noise before the winter, but limped it through.

$452 smackeroonies later....Pick it up this afternoon.

Glad it wasn't the rear. I'm not in the mood to pay over $700 again.

I have a failing rear wheel bearing. So I'm curious, could you provide a break down of the costs that went to make up these numbers?

I assume mostly labor, I don't think the bearings themselves cost much unless you buy the hub assembly, which costs something like twice as much. I think average labor for an automechanic is $100-$130 per hour.

Ok, I had my rear wheel bearing replaced in January of 2012.

I had it replaced with an AC Delco part. The bearing included the ABS sensor for around $450 bucks. The labour was about $300.

This is at least a $700 repair bill.

So everyone knows. The rear wheel bearings are the EXPENSIVE ones to replace. The front are the CHEAPER ones to replace.

Wow, that's some serious markup on that bearing! It lists for $320, and can be gotten from online dealers for $200.

Oh, very interesting. The rear bearings on this car are different than the other cars I've seen. It's only sold as a "Wheel Bearing & Hub Assembly" and the bearing isn't sold separably.

It looks like the rear bearings on the Vibe have the same type of configuration as the ones on this Caravan.

The rear bearings are a hub assembly type. You cannot "just replace the bearing" on this kind of set up. It's an assembly.
