How long does it take you to wash your Vibe?

Post by Toasted7 »

How long does it take you to wash your Vibe... and is it worth all that hard work when you are done? I just spent 6 hours washing and waxing (Mother's 3-Phase System) my Vibe and it feels like my arms are going to fall off, but it was well worth it! That was just the outside of the car, not even including the windows (easily another 45+ mins) and putting a good coat of Mother's B2B on the cladding (another 30+ mins I'm sure). It's a lot of work to keep it looking good, but worth every minute of it to me.

oh yes....it is very possible...ive never hit 10 myself but ive come close...it depends how much you care for perfection in a car. wash, dry and detailing the outside to show car quality (yes you have to make those door jams sparkle) can take 3 or 4 hours and thats w/o windows or wheels...then you got the interior carpets, upholstery, and dash area.....and the inside of the windows too. Now you still have the engine compartment.....now polish your exhaust......clean your brakes.......shine your tires....ok...now wax the whole thing. 10hrs easy!

I have to agree with dmitri that the paint ain't the best in the world (probably closer to the worst ), but I have to say that my Frosty Vibe looks better now than the day I took it home from the dealership. It's practically a mirror finish and I didn't think that was really possible with white paint. All the work I did (6 hours) was worth it and I hope to cut down on that time a little more when I wash and wax it again.

Damn I can do a complete detail job engine/tires/rims/doors/interior lights/vents/carpet/seats/windows/protect all leather and plastic surfaces in about 4 hours. Maybe I have been doing it too long. After cleaning everything then I take out my orbital buffer and hit the outside and the windows and the rims by hand. That only takes another hour.

About 3 minutes. That is the time that you get for 6 quarters in the coin operated carwash. If you are quick, you can rinse, soap, wax, and rinse in that time.

Takes me about a day to properly clean/wax mine. I use Zymol cleaners/waxes which can take longer to apply if you use it like they want you to. They combine the cleaner/polish cream into one application they you let set for a few minutes before buffing off on each section....then the real fun begins. I got a sample kit from them that contains some of their really high end waxes and these MUST be applied by your bare hand to be properly applied. This takes much longer than using an applicator pad I think. Its worth it though. Lasts at least 6 months and gives the car one heck of a shine that beats how it looked from the factory.

Just to wash my car is about 20-30 minutes. If I detail it out perfectly, like the others here state, it's about 8 hours. I steam clean the interior once per year to clean it all out really good. For that, I have to remove the seats. I clean them outside the car so I can get to the whole seat easily and I can more easily clean all the carpeting with the seats removed. Interior scrub, clean, and detail is about 6-7 hours start to finish. That includes the drying time for the seats and carpet as long as it's a sunny day.

To wash & dry I take 60-90 minutes. Being in Illinois I get sooo many bugs and here lately have been getting a lot of splashes of tar or something (looks a bit like a real thin black silly string in the wheel wells) all over the sides so I take a bit of time to carefully remove that. I have a front end cover but that doesn't help the side-view mirrors or around the windshield. Dave

Takes me about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It depends if I detail the inside completely or not.

I am assuming that you people who spend 6-10 hours on your car don't have young kids. If I get 30 minutes to spend on my car, that is a luxury. I try to make it a "family" affair, but you can only keep a couple of 2-year olds interested for so long. I think I'm going to try and have it professionally detailed once a year if I can find a good place at a reasonable cost.

I usually try and have my 2 year old help me out with mine. He is really into cars and water of course, so he doesn't mind helping me out and playing outside while I clean up the car. Trying to do it with a couple of 2 year olds would be tough though.

Sounds like fun with the family, good quality time It usually takes me a couple of hours to really scrub her nice.I have to say it is one of the easiest cars to wash on the outside, but a b#%$^ on the inside!

6hrs...8hrs..10hrs ?!?!? I spent about 90min washing the exterior of the car...and that seemed like a long time. I can't imagine waxing & detailing it.....I'm not known to wax my cars, but the Vibe is different (just bought it new a few weeks ago) or so I say now
