New Vibe owner here. Will my 07 manual trans. Be okay?

Post by nehbulah »

Just picked up an 07 Vibe.
I love it.
But reading these failures on 5 sp. trans. gets me paranoid of the future of my newly acquired car.
Have they solved this problem from the earlier models?
Is there any documentation that supports that they've solved the problem?

Somewhere, either here or Toyotanation or Matrixowners, there was a list of how the transmission was changed. Seems only the 03-04 model years were bad.

Best thing you can do is change your transmission fluid to Redline MTL or MT-90.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Is Redline available in Canada?

Welcome to GenVibe as I see you are a new member. Kudo's for finding a Vibe with a manual tranny :D It seems as the models became newer, the manual tranny's became more scarce :o How many miles on your new Vibe & are you wanting to change the fluids as a precaution only? Also post pics & location (profile please) so we can check out your new ride! Again ................ WELCOME :D

It has 114k kms.
Yes precaution only.
It shifts great.
Any reason I shouldn't use the Toyota tranny fluid?
Is this an easy DIY?
I don't have a lift, but I do have ramps.
But I understand this needs to be done on an even surface?

Redline works, many agree. Whatever you use though, make sure it's GL4.
