I am replacing the headunit and door speakers/tweeters and I'd like to get a better understanding of what I am working with before moving on. I already purchased a Pioneer FH-X700BT and one pair of Polk Audio DXi650. Not sure if I will use them in front or rear. I was not planning on changing out the sub woofer right now.
Does the Monsoon system use a crossover for the front door speakers/tweeter? What are the specs of the amp? AM I better off going component in the front door or is it fine to install the Dxi650s in the front along with new 1" tweeters. Any recommendation for tweeter and rear door speakers? I was going to go with the Polk's front and rear, but I read some reviews that the tweeter is a bit much and maybe something more bassy in the rear door would be better. Then again, maybe component up front and Polks int he rear.
On a tight budget as well. BBuy had the Polks for $50.00 so may go back for another set if I dont; get better recommendations here.
Thanks,
EDIT: Also another question. I ralize I will lose the onstar, but is there a microphone in the rearview mirror that is connected to the factory head unit? If so, can that be used for the BT phone on the new headunit. Much prefer that over having to mount the little microphones that come with new radios.
EDIT2: Not getting much feedback here!! I found a post indicating the tweeters are run parellel with the front door speaker and have a capicitor or something directly attached to them in lieue of a crossover. I don't seem to be getting much from the tweeters and am leaning towards replacing them which I assume means I have to add a crossover after the front door speaker (unless I spring for component for front doors and have crossover in front of door speaker) leading to the tweeter. I have trolled and trolled the forums but could not find a good schematic for the 09 with the monsoon system. The instructions that came with Crutchfield seem a bit generic showing mapping to speakers. Do the speaker wires go to the amp? How is the amp integrated with the existing head unit? Any link to a good wiring diagram would be appreciated. I even sprang for one of the pdf download repair manuals but could not find audio schematics their either. it's like the Vibe Monsoon system is double naught top secret... I'm not even sure what kind of speakers are in the car right now. Maybe a new head unit will clean up the sound and new speakers are not even necessary?
Edit3: Replaced head unit and all 4 door speakers (used Polks all the way around). I picked up some Pioneer ts-t110 tweeters which will be installed as I can figure out which tweeter wire is positive and which is negative. Even though the door speaker and tweeter are supposedly run parallel, they have different colored wires and neither match the colors from the head unit. I submitted another thread for that so hopefully someone can answer what seems to be a very basic question.
The sound is extremely nice so far and should be much better once I get tweeters running. Very bug difference from the Monsoon system.
I also installed an Axxess Metra ASWC-1 but it is not working. I went as far as soldering the wires to the steering wheel but no go. The unit has power but does not recognize any successful wire connections. It did recognize the head unit correctly. It does not allow me to manually configure either. Not sure if it is a bad unit or Axxess just sucks. Will try to contact manufacturer but may just send it back and forgo the steering controls.
