Hey looking on the bright side we'll still have 15 months where they are produced if one of us wanted to replace our Vibe with it's twin :) Based on those dates of production, it looks like this plant ONLY produced 2009 & up models.

So does that mean the end of the Matrix altogether or a Gen 3 at another plant I wonder? Probably the former, but you never know...

Motortrends suggested that the Scion xD and xB would probably fill the gap, despite not being the Corolla-Matrix. I hope they'll at least be attractive, otherwise the 2014 Mazda3 Hatchback is going to be pretty lonely on my list of "cars that can replace the Vibe should disaster strike."

I read there will be a hatchback based on the upcoming 2014 Corolla that will effectively replace the Matrix.

I love the Vibe/Matrix concept. Especially the Vibe side of the design. First Gen Matrix was fine. Second Gen looks a little discordant to me, like a couple of people designed the front half and a couple of other people in a completely different part of the world designed the back half and then just stuck them together. And it has never "grown" on me.

So, if there's gonna be a Corolla based hatch, I hope they do something that looks better. Corolla itself, like Honda Civic, is suffering through a strange design period that I hope won't last much longer. There's no rule that says that small efficient cars have to look so darned pedestrian.
