seat airbag sensor - cleaning seat

Does anyone know if it would hurt to clean the seat with the airbag weight sensor in my 05 vibe? Bought this car as a fix up project and the interior is extremely dirty. Bad enough that I have taken the rear seats out and pressure washed them and it works extremely well. The seats look new again and the upholstery cleaner wouldn't touch it. The only one I have not done yet is the passenger front yet. I am taking all seats out just to more though in cleaning the carpet. Does anyone know if the sensor in the seat can be removed or if it would hurt it to get it wet by cleaning this seat in the same manner? Thanks again for all of your help.

why not simply remove the seat cover and throw it into the wash?

Removing it is no problem, putting it back on might not be so easy, though.
