I am thinking about buying a vibe from a co-worker for my son. Its a 2004 and has over 200,000 miles on it. It seems in pretty good shape though. He is asking for $5000.... Seems a little high for all that mileage... Any thoughts?
Looks like these are pretty good cars! I've always like the style of the vibe.
Welcome Mark! Speaking as an eighteen-year-old who researched for a long time for his first car when he turned 16 I have to say, the Vibe would be a great car for your son. And even though it has 200k on the clock, it will run brilliantly up to 300k and beyond, if taken care of. But $5000 is definitely a major overshot for a Vibe with that mileage. Regardless of condition, he is asking far too much for it. Other members more financially well-versed will probably chime in to what they'd pay (plus I'm skewed as the Vibes in my area sell for higher than KBB value) but KBB is a good benchmark for value.
I hope you work out a good agreement. The Vibe is a fun, practical, and resilient little car. And you found what I believe to be the best year (obviously biased since my own Vibe is an '04)!
Great car to buy as a first car... I second the motion above about Vibe value, durability and dependability.
Get on cargurus.com and search used, Pontiac, Vibe, then after you hit the "search" button, on the left side of the screen you can further filter your search by year ( I just put in 2003 through 2005 ) and then below that, under "radius" set that drop down to "unlimited". This will give you a good idea what Vibe prices are considering miles on odometer and year manufactured all across the U.S. It's a great way to find what these cars are retailing for and to compare your find.
Good luck with the research!

Thanks so much for the help and information KITT222 and vibolista.
The co-worker is not budging on the price.... I believe he must like the car quite a bit and that he cannot see himself parting with it for much less that 5k. I can see now how that is quite high. I will keep searching elsewhere or maybe he will bring it down when he gets no takers....Anyhow much thanks!
