Post by Ace Barker »

Did a search and I am sure its out here but....Any procedures? I saw what looked to be an earlier model GT change with a C clamp but not sure. It looks awful tight. I have the belt, just need the car back from the daughter.ThanksAce...

Oh well I think I need to take this to dealer or Goodyear. I have not found any procedures to change this belt. I did find a Corolla and thought it was same but I am not seeing the tensioner to put an 18MM on. This is a 2.4Thanks Ace...

I don't see you could be able to replace the belt with this tight space without lifting the engine up.The distance between the rail and the alternator pulley is rather small , like 3/8". You might need to unbolt the passenger side engine mount and raise the engine by an inch or so.

The belt actually isn't too bad to change. Your going to need an 19mm socket and a fairly long breaker bar. I would also recommend having a second person to help out(small hands helps alot, mine are pretty big I got some scraped knuckles doing mine). If you take of the passenger side wheel and remove all the plastic panels you will be able to see the crank pulley, AC pulley, and Power steering. While down there have someone release the tension and then pull the old belt off. Once you have the new belt mostly routed from the top, have them release the tension again and slip it over the crank last. http://www.toyotanation.com/fo....htmlThat shows you where the tensor is, its a tight fit to get a breaker bar in there.

My old workplace is a Toyota dealership, most 07-09 Camry water pump are leaking and they replace water pump almost 3 times a day.
All mechanics take off top engine mount to take the belt out fast. Remember Camry has more room than we do , I guess that is the best way to do it.
Remember to place a block of 4x4 at the oil pan or else it could damage the pan.

You can look at this guy for reference on how to raise the engine. It is a from a older model vibe .

I know in modern car, the engine bay is getting smaller tighter. It is because most car have the "Cab -forward" design(Thanks Chrysler with your Intrepid ). The strut tower is right behind the fire wall.
Car companies love cab forward design is because of maximizing space as well as handle frontal impact with higher vehicles suv/truck/cross over. The safety structure design actually makes front cowl as part of a impact absorbing structure to prevent car from riding under during impact with tall vehicles.

I think if you have a Rav4 v6and wanted to replace back 3 spark plugs,it going to be pain on the as$..unless you remove the whole wiper assemblies to access it.

Take a look how a V6 highlander get its spark plugs change.
I am sure after 2 hours into your repair and your "future father-in law" with his pajamas said " oh not done yet , what taking you so long" you will probably snap(unless your gf is a sexy model).
