2005 Pontiac vibe base cold air intake.

Post by suotropapi69 »

I'm new to adding performance parts to my vibe, its not a gt but a base model. I want to add a cold air intake but cant find any for the base model. K&N has them and so does injen but it says it will not fit the base model. Any suggestions or places to get them would be appreciated. Anybody modified the K&n typhoon?

But what year is yours? They changed the intake in 05 when they went to the drive by wire throttle, so it is different than the earlier cars. I'm looking for one for my son's 06 also.t
Somehow, my old ID "trb" was banned......... ?????

Cosmoracing makes a short air intake for the 5-8 base models which will fit, no problem. That's what I have on my 06 base. I think they also make a cold air intake for those years' base, but I wanted the SAI since you can more easily remove and clean the filter on those. Oh, and I was scared to take off my front bumper.

Cosmo Racing in Montreal. $138.50. No need to remove the bumper at all. I have one on my '06 base. I also had one on my '04.
It's easier to fit the filter if you cut about 2-3 inches off the end of the intake tube on the filter end. they work great and make a nice sound. Even nicer when paired with a Magnaflow exhaust.

I have been thinking about getting a CAI. Maybe I can squeeze out another 1 - 2 MPG...how difficult is it to access the filter when its time to clean it?

It's a 15-20 minute job. You just need to remove a few push pins on the underside front of the fender liner, bend it back and there it is.

Thanks. Im guessing you have to turn the wheel all the way to the left to give yourself more room for removal ? Also how far down is the filter located?

The filter is just above the fog light. Turning or removing the wheel helps.
