Vehicle Processing Dept.

Post by jake75 »

Last week I received two unsolicited calls from "Vehicle Processing Dept. of GMC/Pontiac". They say they are part of General Motors but I am skeptical. They are essentially selling Extended Warranties. He wanted to know how many miles I had on my Vibe. I told him 20,000 miles. He said that was above the # of miles to qualify but he would get his supervisor on the phone and see if they could still sell me an extended warranty. 20,000 miles on a 4 year old car is too many miles??? Repeated questions "are you a part of GM" generated vague responses. I told them to mail me the information - but I doubt I will ever see anything in writing. Anyone else experiencing this? I saw once what GM wanted to extend the warranty via the GM Protection Plan" - it was high. I have heard too many horror stories about the private auto warranty outfits to risk dealing with any of them.

No, I never got calls, but I'm on the do not call list.
The only c r a p I get in the mail is the 'you have $9 g m car d earnings' flyer and the pics of new cars, which I rip up on sight.

No actual phone calls YET Jerome, but I'm constantly getting the "third party" extended warranty offers form everybody & their brother. I swear we get one every month or two. Seeing how we have three 2009 GM vehicles they never know which one they're targeting so they just keep sending us these pitiful offers. If I ever did get an actual phone call I would definitely have some fun with them. I'm a telemarketers worst nightmare. This P i s s e s the wife off big time but I get some entertainment value out of it. Plus I believe the solicitors get some kind of points or credits for keeping a potential customer on the phone for so long

I don't mind junk mail - just junk phone calls. Last GM Card earnings mailing I had something like $850 and they would up to $2,000 if I bought a GM car by 2-28-13. Plus another $1,000 bonus rebate, plus whatever public rebates were applicable. I bought both my 2003 and 2009 Vibes with topped up GM Card Earnings, $2,000 and $3,000 respectively. That's tax free money! Also used the earnings for two sons that happened to be living in my household at the time. All in all over $8,000.

No phone calls here either. I do however get mail from the local GM dealer where I purchased my Vibe from about once a month or so. It's always some "special deal" to try and get me to buy a new Buick, Chevy, GMC, etc.. Just as 808 Vibes said, I tear it up and put it directly into recycling, usually without even really looking at it.

I would suspect it is a scam, if they call back again I would at least make sure there is a phone numbe r to call them back at, and definately don't give them a credit card number or any other personal info that that can use to get at your finances or use to steal your identity. I will only giv no to people I have contacted, at least then it is likely that they are who they say they are. I remaber a few years ago this was a big scam. Just be careful.

Really - I should not give my ss# and credit card information to a person who is calling me on the phone? Even that nice lady Rachel from Cardholder Services?
I'm now 70 but still not that senile. News article last week about an elderly lady that withdrew $13,000 in cash from her bank to share in $150,000 cash someone found in a parking lot- the old "pigeon drop" scheme. I have mixed feelings - even that old lady should know that even if the lost $150,000 was real it wasn't her money. Her greed is what got her into trouble.

Sorry didn't mean to come across as insulting your intelligence, just wanted to warn of the potential scam, again sorry if I sounded condescending not my intention.

Well, I received yet another "private offer" from the local GM dealer yesterday for a new Chevy Cruze, Traverse or Equinox . I don't even look at them anymore. They get ripped up and put in recycling immediately.

No offense taken. I have a thick skin; you meant well. Never know for sure if I was that clueless. I don't even mind back seat drivers (or front passenger seat drivers) as I need all the help I can get.
