2003 vibe with 17 inch alloys.
140,000 miles on it .original struts . rest of the front end is good. alignment is good.tires almost new and balanced at sam,s club .inflation =32 lb.
getting vibration about 56 to 60 mph.
most of the wheels have bad curb rash.
could that throw the balance off ?
or could a wheel or tire be out of round and the tire tech maybe not see it ?
any advice is appreciated.
curb rash can deff nock the wheel out of ballance , but if you re ballance all 4 that should fix you right up as long as you keep them away from curbs in the future lol
i would suggest a rotation every other oil change and a Ballance every 4th
Speed dependent vibration is almost always a balance issue.
If you have free balancing, take it back to Sams Club. Test it right away when they're done and have them do it again if it's still giving you a problem. The quality of the balance you get will vary by whatever tech is doing it. I had to ask Discount Tire to balance my tires 3-4 times before they got it right.
also deff have them check the balance before they remove the weights if any wheel is out by more than a 1/2oz you will know that was the problem . and do not get a static balance (weights on inside only) even if they have to put the weights for the outside on the back of the spoke you should have a regular balance done , and also if there is more than one weight on either side of each wheel they clearly did it wrong ! any grease monkey should be able to balance a non bent wheel to 0 i dont care what anybody says thats a fact !

A rotor will only cause vibration when/if it's warped and will have nothing to do with the running vibration the OP is discussiong. A scored rotor also is not a cause of vibration, just a scratch caused by debris in the pad.
My Bet is on a tire being out of balance, but you may want to check to make sure that your ball joints have not loosened up. I had both the nuts on my ball joint loosen up and caused a vibration on mine.
Take it back, and while they are balancing them, check the rim for runout. A bent rim will cause a vibration. Wife's already smacked up my nice 17's so we made the switch to steelies..

Tire could be slightly out of round... or a belt separated. After a good balance, if the wheel is determined to be round and the vibration is still there, belt separation might be the problem.
Another thing that goes unchecked too many times is debris stuck to the inside of wheel. Just like in Winter, when you get a lot of snow frozen to the back of the wheel, it will run like its way out of balance until it melts off or gets knocked off. A big chunk of mud or tar can have much the same effect. I always clean my wheels thoroughly before I take them to have new tires mounted and balanced. Doesn't take much to mess up wheel balance.
Stay away from those curbs, they can knock weights off and damage your tire sidewalls. Hope it's something easily fixable!
