2009 AWD Vibe

Post by TJinPgh »

Hey Every1!

Been quite a while since I've been on here. Anyway, I've had fairly good luck with my 03 Vibe so I thought that it might be time to grab one of the later ones before they start getting too old.

A local dealer has an 09 Vibe AWD. A bit over 60k. GM Certified. Asking $13,100 for it. Cargurus.com lists it as a pretty good deal.

So, I have to ask... are there any issues with that particular model that I should be aware of? Any problems I should be concerned with that I might not have experienced in the 03 FWD?

Any other thoughts in general?

Thanks.

Really surprised none of the all wheel drive guys have jumped in with advice here! I haven't heard of any major problems and only know one person that bought a 2008 AWD. He hasn't had any trouble with his.

I probably wouldn't really go for the all wheel drive model. Mostly because the extra weight and mechanical complication. I live in Maine and have not had a problem in snow with front wheel drive... but I do use dedicated snow tires during Winter since I travel to the ski areas a couple of times a week.

Also don't like the MPG hit you take on the AWD... but if you have to have it, I would go for it. Cargurus is a great site. If it says it's a good deal, and the info on the car is correct... it probably is. Check the car out personally anyway and ask for a car fax report. Good luck!

$13'1XX seems a fair price, but go through the car, I'm sure you could knock him down another thousand or negotiate a good set of winter tires/rims with the deal!

As for maintenance, you'll have a driveshaft, transfer case, rear diff, and rear driveaxles... that's about it. I haven't seen any problems reported on here with those systems on 09-10 Vibes.

One thing I've seen with slip-and-grip AWD vehicles, is that the traction control and stability control tend to kick in and defeat the AWD. Systems that, on their own, tend to be pretty good but together seem to cancel each other out.
