oil filter differances

Post by jwangelin »

I changed the oil on my 2006 vibe base model the other day. I messed up and got the wrong oil filter, a vin L filter instead of a vin 8. The L is longer and seems identical in diameters and thread count. Should I rush to put the correct one in or am I simply getting the advantage of a slightly larger filter?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

So here's what biodieselrabbit was to lazy to post for you.

Courtesy of joatman on the specified topic:

the oil filters are physically interchangeable for the 1ZZ and 2ZZ engines. Supposedly, the filter spec'd for the 2ZZ is taller. One impact of this is that if you use a 2zz filter on 1zz, you need about an extra pint of oil per oil change. But, you get more filter surface, and more oil in the system, which some feel makes it worth doing.

Both 1ZZ and 2ZZ filters (03-08) are metal screw on cans. Permanent housings with replaceable internal paper filters was new for 09 engines
