Just picked up my 03 Vibe, 95K miles on it.

Post by Ninjaruski »

Hey guys,

I just picked up my new Vibe as a kind of early Christmas present to myself. There's a couple of things I plan to do to it, like replace the stock radio with an aux input/MP3 player. I plan to do the installation of that myself, so if you guys have listed any tutorials on the forums, that'd be good.

One of the more important things I'm worried about is the fact that we get a lot of rain/weather/snow in Chicago and Southern Illinois where I go to school, so I'm probably going to look into getting some all weather or off road tires for the Vibe, if at all possible. I was hoping you guys would know something about that.

I'm also looking for any information about the car at 95K+: everyone I've spoken with has said that the vibe will run forever with regular maintenance and that should I need parts, Matrix and Corolla parts will fit in my Vibe. Are there any parts in specific that I need to keep an eye on?

So, uh. Hi! And I look forwards to being a part of this community.

Hi Ninjaruski,
Congratulations on the "new" Vibe!!! Please post some pictures.
I like my 05 base a lot, but its worst attribute (imho) is its capability in SNOW! It is the second worst car I've owned in snow. The worst: 70 Mustang V8.
You may want to buy 4 new "winter" tires - Blizzaks, for instance. My brother has firestone winter tires on his Vibe and he swears by them! Good luck.

Welcome to GenVibe :D If you're in the Chicago area you're in for a treat as some of our "more active members" here are likely your neighbors. Update your profile showing your location. Yeah you may want to get a better all season tire or a totally separate set of snows for the winter. You won't regret getting this vehicle and the support here @ GenVibe is second to none. Again .................. Welcome :D

Welcome! A good set of tires can and will make all the difference in the world. Last two years I had all-season tires (generic Firestone FR710s) but this year I have some Firestone Winterforce tires, and they are GREAT. I can do amazing things with them. We had a good 8+ inches of snowfall, and I took the unplowed highways home, handling it better than the big 4WD SUVs everyone in this state seems to own. And I'm lowered, too. ;) I'm not going to say I'm invincible (it felt like I was) but tires are the #1 thing you can change to improve the performance of your vehicle.

Welcome to GenVibe! I am one of the more active Chicagoland members that tpollauf mentioned and I am in Sandwich. Where are you located? We will more than likely try to get a Chicagoland meet set up for some time in the spring. Hopefully you can join us. Post some pictures of your "new" Vibe when you get a chance ;)!

Welcome to GenVibe!!!

You want 4 dedicated winter tires! If they can be studded, all the better!

I ran Firestone Winterforce for years on my old Vibe... Run them on my truck now, too! And yes, they're studded!
