orange "O/D OFF" switch

It's almost always on. Yes I know about the switch on the shift knob, but shutting off the engine and startup turns it right back on again. This never happened before. But since my poor Frosty is still out of commission for the time being, my poor baby Nepune has been my work horse and @ 64k.
I tested it and even the slightest touch of the button will change the light on/off.
Could this be something loose, something broken? How do I check?
