Cargo Rail Amplifier Rack

Post by th3jack »

I just inherited the family vibe from my mom. She upgraded so being the oldest son, i get it first. Me being a typical teenager i want to put in a new sound system. Amps, headunit, speakers, subs, the good stuff. I was thinking of making an amplifier rack to keep things neat and tidy. I want to mount the rack (probably just a painted piece of plywood) onto the cargo rails on the back seat. than when i take it out there won't be any screw holes in the plastic. Any ideas on how i could accomplish that? i just need to find out how to mount the rack to the rail system. any help would be awesome and if i do find a way, ill be sure to post pics.

There are some tie downs that go into the rails. I never had them on my Vibe, though.

Especially if your mom bought it new, the track pieces might be in the spare tire well somewhere. I know they are in there on my son's car. Otherwise you could use some bolts, washers, and nuts to create some mounting points for the plywood. Find some washers that fit inside the rails but are not too loose, put the bolt through one washer, slide it into the rail, drop another washer on top, and tighten it down in place with a bolt. Use another nut on the bolt to fasten the plywood down.

Good luck! I wish the guy that owned my GT prior to me had done something similar. He just screwed everything to the seat backs, and now I have like 20 small holes!

My son's are in a couple of clear plastic bags, laying around the spare tire. One has the hardware, the other some nylon straps.

My friend's 03 AWD still has factory bags sealed in the trunk. From the tie-downs to the straps. Even three spare key fobs. Those who don't pay too much attention to what's under there can discover amazing things... He didn't even know he had a spare tire!
