The nav system in my 2003 Vibe is having difficulty reading the nav disc on occasion (although more and more frequent lately). I sometimes get a 'no disk' or 'cannot read' message and then 5-10 minutes later, the nav system kicks in. This will stay operable for a while but then it reverts back to 'cannot read'. I have tried disk cleaners (no apparent major scratches) and optical DVD cleaner disks to no avail. My Vibe, although basically trouble free since '03, has 250,000 miles on it so I'm wondering if my system is getting 'long in the tooth' so to speak. Any suggestions besides replacing the entire unit? Thanks ...
Unfortunately, those discs are hard to find, and they haven't been updated in a long time. Would be nice if you could hook up with another Viber with NAV to try your disc in their head unit, to know if the problem is the disc or the head unit The cheapest and most sure way to get NAV back in your Vibe might be to buy a garmin
Thanks for the reply. The Vibe with a nav system is a rare beast and chances of finding another vehicle for disk trial is next to impossible. The disks are available for approx. $200 but before I spend that (not knowing if that's the cause) I'd probably be better off having the unit pulled, checked and cleaned since it has been in the vehicle for 10 yrs plus. The trick would be to find someone to perform this. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks again ...
I had an issue with my pioneer HU this summer, so I did a search for "electronic repair" with my town's name. I called around, and the place I took it to was able to fix it (bad ground) and the plastic holding the radio to the dash.
