P235 45 17 on stock 09 alloy 7" rims

Post by marq »

Just wanting to confirm that somebody has stuffed this larger tire on the stock 17x7 rim (2.4l) without issue.

Recommended rim size for this tire is a little wider but I found a new set of tires a guy bought and wants to sell and will save me $200. Plus I need new tires anyway.

I have 235/40/18s on my 2010 GT 18x7 wheels with no real issues at all. I do get a bit of rubbing when backing down the driveway with the wheel turned, but the stock size tires rubbed also so I think it is a fault of improperly refastened fender liners (by the prior owner) more than the tire size. I just ran the two sizes on the Miata tire size calculator, and the 235/45/17 is almost exactly the same size as my 235/40/18 tires, only .1 inch difference in diameter smaller.

Also, on Discount Tire, they show the 235/45/17 as an optional tire size for your car.

I am running 225/50-17 on stock rims with Tein H-Tech springs. I also get rubbing on the inner fender well when backing up, once and a while when pulling forward with people in the car. When the all four of the family are in the car the think looks like it is on S-Techs.

1. your tires are too tall
2. the rubbing is going to be dependent on your wheels' offset..

235 is technically too wide for a 7" rim

i would stick to a 225
