Replaced hub/knuckle assembly on vibe;now ABS light on??

Post by pointbob »

Hey all. Multi part question.

Replaced hub/knuckle assembly on vibe; but now ABS light stays on while driving.

1) Does this sort of wheel repair "automatically" require a reset of the codes on the car? I was quoted $60 from a repair shop to reset it.

2) Could I have done something wrong/had damaged sensor which came with the used wheel parts?

Any ideas on how to proceed. Can I reset the codes myself easily.

thanks

no, it does not require resetting. as long as the donor sensor is still good, the abs will not throw a code. plug and play.

you may not have, but the sensor may have been damaged. or its possible there might be differences in model year sensors, as there might be a resistance difference between certain model years. if the light comes back on after resetting i'd attempt to swap your old sensor back to the donor knuckle.

thank you bluneon!

it's funny because I called 2 dealerships and both gave opposite answers - one said it needs to be reset and the other said, no - it will only show if there is a problem with the sensor..

i think i'm going to try to remove the abs sensor from the orig hub and try to replace it on the donor hub - do yo uknow if this is a complex job?

Spray the sensor and sensor well on the knuckle with brake cleaner. If the replacement knuckle is from a junkyard, it's likely it's got all kinds of crap in the sensor well. Most ABS sensor faults can be fixed by cleaning up the sensor; it's rarely due to an all out failure.
