Tokico struts and mounts

Post by lannvouivre »

As far as strut mounts for Tokico struts go, do I need anything special or can I just get some from Monroe or something?

Also, does anyone know if the Tokico struts will be the smoothest/best performing ones that I can get, or would the Monroe Sensa trac or some KYB struts be just as good? I'd like to get some Tein H-Tech springs at some point as well, so I want to make sure that the struts I get will be ok with a 1.7" Front 1.5" Rear drop.

I'm currently taking a suspension/steering automechanics course, and we can work on our own cars in the class. I want to do struts (and maybe even springs) while I have this glorious opportunity as well as access to the tools. The best part about getting to work on my car, though, is that mine's not covered in black widows like the school's lab rat cars are. YAY!

I have Tokico struts with the stock springs. They give a sporty, and firm feeling, with the right amount of feedback from the road, without being bumpy.
If you're looking for the stock feeling, go with Monroe or KYB.

I prefer to keep my cars at the stock ride height.

Yeah, I got the Tokicos on now. Firm ride, but I prefer it over stock because now when I hit a bump, it feels like Epona just goes up instead of up, down a little, and then back up to normal height. I don't mean her shocks were out, just that they were not as stiff.

I inspected the old ones and they were still in great condition. Rear ones were KYB, front ones were unlabeled. I'm wanting to call the rental dealership that had used her to ask if they ever replaced the stock struts.
