Factory 12 volt outlet not working

Post by bigdaddyjosh »

I have a factory 12 volt outlet in an 09 vibe. Until very recently it worked just fine. However now when I plug in my phone and turn it on via the switch near the shifter nothing happens. The light for the switch turns on, indicating power to the plug. I checked the fuse and it looks fine. Can someone help me?

Look under the drivers seat. There are two silver boxes under there. The labeled one in the OnStar box, the unlabled rounded silver one is for the 120V one. Check the wires and plugs.

Are you sure you mean 12 volt? You described the switch for the inverter which puts out 120 volt AC, not 12 volt DC. The switch doesn't affect the 12 volt DC receptacle.

I made the assumption that it was the 120V outlet as he mentioned the switch. For the 12V cig outlet, I've found that the solder on the wires of whatever charger you plug in break easily or the action of constantly pluging/unpluging it wears out the plug springs and it never sits properly.
