Push stick forward to set the gear
New manual drivers also need to get use to the fact reverse is rarely synchronized. Basically, be gentle. Shift into first, then shift into reverse. If you dont like that and you have good pedal control, blip the throttle a tiny bit and the gear will set if it won't engage easily. This is universal in manual cars really.

My 03gt I find takes a good amount of effort to get it into reverse....my 04xrs was the same..its so you don't accidentally put it into reverse while moving...
ok, I was reading something on line that there was issues with the bushings on the shift linkage needs to be lubed or replaced if in worn out I was going to look at that Issue too.
The stock bushings are rubber with metal inserts. Lubing them actually can hurt shift feel, i don't do it. Shift feel improves with solid brass/aluminum bushings, which i like a lot, but getting into reverse has little to do with this.
