I was doing sme price comparison for parts on Rock auto and was curious why some (maybe all) parts for the Vibe are more expensive than the Matrix, and also why there are fewer choices of parts suppliers for the Vibe than the Matrix. Is this due partly to the Vibe and Pontiac being no more or what? Thanks for any replies.
That is partly true. When I look up parts for the cars from Autozone, Oreilly, Advance, etc, I look at the part numbers and see if they are different numbers. Many times they are the same and thus the same parts and are usually the same price.
I know GM parts are much of the time more expensive than the identical Toyota parts. That is certainly attributable to them holding the parts for a no longer sold model. In fact, I have several interior trim parts I need to order for my GT, and over the past 6 months, the prices have increased about 10% from the online GM dealers. I think on the "obsolete" parts they increase the price every month to account for their storage.

Stop buying from gm. Parts marked for the MATRIX that match the Vibe do tend to be cheaper some places. Toyota dealers are much cheaper btw, and anything that does not deal with the ecu can generally be done by a toyota dealer cheaper. Understand that many parts from the corolla are identical as well, and toyota keeps a much larger stock of parts than gm ever will.
