Air bag light, & the loss of the always impressive Vibe Horn

Post by lgdehart »

Hey Guys!

I'm a newbie, but have stalked the board for a while. I have a 2006 Vibe with about 180,000 that I'm in love with. It's never given me any trouble (that I didn't cause ;) )

Anyhoo, the other day I noticed out of nowhere that my airbag light was on and determined to stay that way. I seemed to lack a sense of urgency about checking it out. That IS at least until an 18-wheeler tried to come over on top of me on the interstate 2 days later. I of course went to lay on the trusty Vibey Horn (which we know sounds like a person saying honk...MAYBE a slightly perturbed person, but still), and I was greeted with silence. I mean besides my screaming. My sense of urgency has been restored. I use my horn like it's my job (driving in the DC area requires it).

So do any of you fine people have any advice. My husband suggested checking out the fuses, which I'm going to do this evening, but I thought I'd check in with y'all first to see if you have any other advice.

Thanks!
Lisa

With both the horn not working and airbag light on, chances are that it could be the clockspring in the middle of the steering wheel. It is the wiring connection that connects the horn button and airbag wires to the steering column. It is generally a long piece of wire loosely coiled up in a casing to allow the wheel to turn and still maintain the connections. If that is the case, then the airbag/steering wheel would have to be removed and the clockspring replaced. But be sure to check all the fuses first. Maybe you will get lucky.
