Question Re: Cosmo Racing SRI

Hey guys, I'm contemplating buying a Cosmo Racing short ram off of an MO member. Says the intake was off an 05 XR, which is also a 1zz. However, upon checking the website, Cosmo Racing lists different intakes for the 03-04 and 05+ Matrixes/Vibes. Is there any reason for that, or are they basically the same intake with no compatibility issues?

The only issue is the breather tube for the valve cover. I believe the 03 - 04 the Breather tube port was build into the Throttle Body, on the 05+ it is was build into the stock intake tube just before the TB. My SRI is for a 03-04 so I had to add a Breather filter on that tube to the valve cover. I guess on the 05+ SRI they have a breather port built into the SRI. So you would either need to had a breather filter or Plug the port on the SRI.

No you should not have any compatiblity issues. Here's a few tips:
Disconnect the Battery first and reconnect it after you have everything installed and ready to go.
There is one tube on the stock air box that will be connected onto the SRI before the MAF. The key is anything that is connected before the MAF stays before the MAF with the SRI. Anything connected after the MAF stays after the MAF with the SRI.
Air/Vac leaks are common issues with any intake but 90% are caused by improper installation!
Also if you have an 03-05 1zz you should consider replacing the intake manifold gasket because they are known issues in those years for leaking. It's an easy replacement, a cheap part and will save you head aches down the road.
