I need a basic hedunit with an Ipod port

Post by woodyg »

I am an experienced BYM(back yard mechanic) with zero knowledgeable about radio, stereos, head-units or what ever they are called now.

I have a 2006 Vibe and the LCD lights went out on me. I tried taking it apart and soldering in new bulbs......Now the Unit does not work at all. :?

Can anyone give me a suggestion of an inexpensive radio that has a port for the Ipod. I don't even care about a CD. I also wonder how they get installed. do you buy a kit that retrofits the new unit into the old space...........all help is appreciated........
2006 vibe, White, 1zzfe, auto, AWD, PW, PL, CC, AC, 192,000 miles....(07/14/2014). been working on my cars for many years. I am an OK backyard tech.

As for head units, almost anything that will fit in a single or double DIN opening will work. http://www.crutchfield.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has all kinds, and they can also provide any mounting kits and wiring harness adapters to make it basically a plug and play install. Look up your car on there and you can see all the stuff you need. If you can find it cheaper on ebay or another stereo place, at least you know what you need from their website.

I know my son wants to upgrade the unit in his 06, but we are waiting until he's out of college due to the theft factor at school. We will be using the info on Crutchfield to decide what to do.

Good luck!
