New member/new Vibe owner in PA

Post by Digger02 »

Hey,

Just bought a 2003 Pontiac Vibe with 100K miles - hope to find help here doing standard maintenance stuff - brakes, rotors, exhaust, fixing rust, etc. The Vibe I bought spent its life in PA, and its got some rust underneath - any tips on what to do to keep it from spreading.

Also any tips on keeping the auto tranny in good working order - that's one high ticket item I'd like to avoid.

Any standard things to look for or replace soon?

For stopping the spread of rust a lot of restorers use a product called P.O.R. 15. I think Eastwood sells it, if not there are other outlets for it. Hope that helps you out. :)

YEAAAAA!!!! Another member from PA!!!!

For fighting rust, I simply do the following:
1. Open the garage door.
2. Pull the Vibe inside.
3. Drive the winter beater 4x4
LOL

Where at in PA are you located? with enough members, we may need to get a fall meet going.

As a PA Viber, that would be great! I was sorry I missed the one in Erie this summer - I've been meaning to head up there...one day...eventually. Quite a distance away from Southeastern PA, though! :)

I do wonder how much rust may be potentially underneath my Vibe, though. :-\ In the winter, I try to get it washed somewhat regularly, particularly after a snow or ice storm. From what I can see, it doesn't look too bad though, but then again I don't have it on lifts when I peer underneath it.

Howdy all,

I live about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh, near Butler. Thanks for the POR-15 suggestion - I'll probably order some to paint up some of the rusty things on the underside of the car. Its been a great 1st week of driving - about 500 miles of driving, averaging about 32mpg with just a few drives with the AC on. Thrilled (my truck averaged about 16mpg).

I'll try to put some pics up over the weekend.

Sounds like you got a nice Vibe BUT we here love (sometimes INSIST) on pics for the proof :? My wife is from Olean NY and when we head east to visit relatives we come close to where you're at. Again Welcome ;)

It's only about a 2 hour drive. We have friends who live in new castle, and we all go back and forth all the time. Maybe if we can get more together we can all meet up at grove city.
