Thought might be battery issue as jumping wouldn't start it up. New battery installed (old one really was dead) but still won't start. I switched it over to neutral, and it started that way. I am a little car illiterate, but am trying to become more self sufficient. Any ideas??
Sounds like your neutral safety switch is bad or out of adjustment. It prevents your car from starting unless it is in Park or Neutral. I'm not sure on the Vibes, but on most cars you can bypass it to test it out. Most likely it is in the shifter housing area and if you unplug the wires going to it, you can run a small wire between the two proper terminals and the starter will crank.
I'm sure someone with more detailed wiring info will chime in and give you more direction. I don't have a wiring diagram yet for my Vibes. If it were a Mustang issue, I'd have that all covered from 79-04!
