Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I saw this forum and I decided to tell a little problem that I just got today with my Pontiac Vibe '06 based model.
I started my car and tried to put the volume up, but then the red screen just went out ! I tried all the button on the radio but nothing worked. I noticed that the cd slot is still working but when I put the cd back in the radio nothing happenned !
I just want to know if I can repair this simply or I need to get a new radio, if so do you have any idea wich one works fine with the based model speakers ?
The first thing I'd check is the fuse. The radio gets power from the CIG fuse which is under the left side of the dash, and hard to access. You can also tell if the fuse is good by testing to see if the 12 V cigarette lighter/power outlet near the shifter has power. That outlet and the radio get power from the same fuse. I have tried bad connectors in that outlet, blown the fuse, which kills power to the radio
I think this is the problem, because my power mirror stopped working too !
I tried to find the fuse panel, but I removed the wrong panel, near the left foot, just at the left of the footrest thing ! I unscrewed the plastic cap, but I can't screwed it back...
I don't know why, but the plastic cap that cover all the lower portion of the door is moving a little bit and it frustrates me.
Yeah, that interior fuse panel is a pain to get to. Just for reference sake, on the left side of the steering wheel, lower than the power window controls, there is a small storage compartment. I you were to remove that plastic bin, you could see the top of an electrical junction box. The fuses you need to check are on the underside of that junction box. It won't do you any good to remove that bin, you can not access the fuse block that way. I only mention it because that should help you understand where the fuse block is. When you lie on your back and look up inside the dash for it, you will likely see a black plastic cover that you'll have to press the clip on one side to remove and access the fuses.
You waid that the radio stopped working, and also that the power mirror controls are not working either. The two may be related, caused by one single problem, or they may be two independent problems. Check everything you can that is electrical, see if anything else is not working. That will help folks here try to locate a potential single failure that can cause all the electrical problems.
Did you ever try to see if the 12V outlet/cigarette lighter thing still works?
