New Wheel Covers

Post by blue_can »

I'm on the lookout for some new wheel covers and wondered if anyone could suggest options. Main reason is that I accidentally brushed up against the curb while parking in a spot where the road had a dip resulting in damage - basically the edges got ground off. I had been driving like that since then but about a week ago something hit the tire which caused more if the wheel cover to break off resulting in a shattered piece slicing through the sidewall. That was the end of the tire The tries were OE and at 47K were pretty much at the end of their life. So I got a new set of tires but got rid of the wheel cover and looking for a matching one or a new set.

I can get it through the dealer but as I recall (and I asked them for pricing a while back) it was some crazy price.

Any decent auto wreckers in your area? They usuall have lots kicking around. And if you lived near Red Deer, AB, I've got 4 that are just sitting at my old mans collecting dust.

If you're in the US, check out GMPartsCenter.net. I ordered 8 brand new 2009-2010 2.4L Base/AWD 16" wheel covers from them last year for the winter wheels for mine and my mom's 2009 Vibe GTs. Surprisingly it was actually cheaper to order brand new ones then it was to get ones on eBay, from a junkyard, etc. Plus they didn't charge shipping on them, only $7.99 for handling. I also lucked out and waited until they were offering a 10% discount on all orders over $100.00 for the holiday season. If I remember correctly, it ended up being $271.xx for 8 brand new wheel covers (approximately $34.00 each) shipped to my door. Not bad at all if you ask me!

If you want to check out junkyards, your best bet is to check out car-part.com and see what's available in your area.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. star_deceiver - sadly I live in San Diego - a long way away from Deer River, AB (is that near Edmonton?). I have relatives in BC and was in Vancouver a month ago.

I will check the local auto wreckers but don't hold much hope since Vibes are quite rare around here. Online wreckers may be a better choice although you don't get to see the item until it gets here. I will check the GM parts link also.
