New Vibe

Post by xcmtb83 »

Well the Ms. justed picked herself up a 2003 Vibe Base with 63,000 miles on it. We were looking at both the Vibe and the Matrix but settled on the Vibe. We settled on the Vibe due to its grey plastic cladding (live on gravel road), the 115V inverter is handy and the platform on the back of the passenger seat is handy too for driver only trips if one is charging a laptop. The Vibe is silver in color has factory crossbars up top and very good shape overall. So far I have performed a version of the DIY power window panel fix linked below, changed oil and filter, prepped and painted the steel wheels back to a nice gloss black finish (ugly surface rust was visible behind the hubcaps) and installed a Draw-Tite receiver hitch strictly for hauling mountain bikes.

I am now in need of a few misc dealership only parts. Is there a parts manual somewhere online that illustrates parts and their numbers? I have found these incrediby useful for ordering parts from the dealership or online from OEM suppliers.

Looking forward to tapping into this website a lot as maintenance requirments come up!

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Welcome to GenVibe! It sounds like you got a really great Vibe. 63,000 miles on a 9 year old Vibe is nothing! It's also great to hear you got it in the best color !

Check out GMPartsCenter.net for great prices on OEM parts and accessories. You can search for parts on there and it usually gives you diagrams so you can see exactly what part it is you need.

Thanks for the link. So we bought the Vibe because I have owned a few Toyotas and have became comfortable with them. I order all of my parts from our local dealer but then he matches any online prices that I come up with as long as it is genuine Toyota parts. My question is just how many of the parts off of the Matrix are identical to the Vibe? For example the suspension components? I am in need of strut dust covers/boots but since I can get a discount on Toyota parts I would prefer to buy through them.

Welcome! As far as your question, most all mechanical and a majority of interior parts are the same between the Vibe and Matrix. The main different parts are the body panels, interior parts with the logos on them, and apparently some of the AC parts. I thought there was a cross reference list on a lot of the common part numbers somewhere.

You may already have it, but I found this website with the same format as the GM website for parts. I used it to compare prices on a few things.

Good luck with the new to you car!
