Intake Vacuum Lines

Bought this Vibe used and have had it a couple of weeks. I was checking the air filter and noticed a vac line with a broken end. Did not think that was doing much good. Traced it down and it was busted from the back of the air cleaner housing. It T's off from the vac line from the TB housing that has the check valve in it. When running, there was a leak, so it is plugged for now.Anyone know what this line does. It looks like the entire air filter box needs to be replaced to repair it. Not sure how it ended up busted. Only 3,500 mi, so too early for a filter replacement Maybe a warranty item? Or perhaps an intake mod

There is an air door on the back of the aix filter box on GT's that opens to allow in more air. It's operated by engine vacuum.It's the round thing at the top of this pic:That broken line is probably it. Just remove the whole line (both pieces) and get a replacement length from an auto parts store. It's not a difficult job.

Hey Nova, good pic, but my busted line is from the top half of the filter box, on the same side as the valve in your pic. Looks like it might help regulate the valve, maybe helping to close it? It has a male fitting for the vac line, but that's the part that is busted. Not enough of it left to put the line back over it. Might be worth a trip to the auto store to see if they have a self tapping fitting!Like your modded short ram, hows the noise level? Any reason you did not go with the AEM short ram?

Took another look under the light of day, looks like the side of the air cleaner housing serves as a vacuum reservoir for the vsv, and it will be easy to epoxy up the old hole and tap a new fitting into the side.

Sounds like you have the EXACT same problem I had shortly after buying my Vibe. One day I noticed a strange hissing sound while my engine was running. I looked under the hood and traced it to a hanging vaccum line. I could not for the life of me find out where the line re-attached so I took it the dealer. We found out that the line attached to the top part of the airbox on the back side to a little plastic piece that had broken off for some reason. Sure enough, they had to replace the entire airbox assembly. While I was waitng for the airbox to come in, they just plugged up the vacum line.Jim

Dealer replaced the whole assembly, was relatively painless. They were a bit suspicious about how it broke, but did not hassel me. Took less than a week to get the part and they installed it in no time at all. Decent dealer experience considering that I did not purchase the vehicle there.Seems to run a bit better, but maybe that was me hoping. Good thing it was warranty, the part was about $209!! Or was it....CAI still an option. Would like a short ram that is reasonably silent.

A short ram or CAI are inherently going to make more noise than the stock filter. You eliminate the filter box, which has some muffling qualities. The intake pipe is wider, and it is essentially a straight run, so it's gonna make noise.My intake doesn't make THAT much noise...you hear it, but no one has said to me flat out "your engine is loud" or anything to insinuate that it is unusually loud.
