Vacuum controlled A/C bypass

Post by hotbug1776 »

So, I'm working on adding a vacuum controlled switch to automatically shut off the A/C when passing or climbing. Basically any time you are in need of power when on the road and have the A/C on.

All the switch will do is deactivate the A/C at a certain throttle opening the power it back up at cruising speeds. Old Tele Man suggested this on an Eco mod site, and, I think I'm going to run with it.

Any suggestions to help make this better are appreciated. I'll be using the Superior k-058 switch to make this happen.

why would you go Vacuum? Why not go with a microswitch that can be hooked onto the lead of the compressor power wire wich energises it.Would be a lot faster to do it this way

Where would I mount the switch? Tb or pedal.

The vacuum method would be wired in the same fashion, just using the vacuum to activate the switch. Also, the vacuum switch doesn't require a bracket to mount it. Just zip tie it to the harness.

Quick update. Traced the wires to the switch, the yellow wire is controlled by the switch and powers the signal to the PCM for the AC signal. I'm ordering the switch this week, will tie it in ASAP and begin the adjustment phase of the project. This should make hills, passing, and take offs a lot easier.

Final update and a little how to.

The switch is about $40. $6 for wire. Some solder and something to help fish wires.

On the A/C switch harness there is a solid yellow wire which sends the signal to the PCM. We are going to splice this wire with the vacuum switch. In the engine bay, you simply splice into a constant vacuum signal, wire the switch to NORMALLY OPEN. take the car for a drive with the ac on, and watch the led turn on and off. Adjust the switch to your preferences, and, viola!!! Intelligent ac control.

Any questions, feel free to post.
