Was looking to change my ATF myself so called around for price on ATF Type IV and was told it sells for $17.94 qt. I'm like WHAT! So I called Toyota and their ATF Type IV goes for $6 qt. so I'm like what? again. Called another GM dealer and asked why that is ? The Parts guy tells me it has to do with the fact the GM's ATF T-IV has special additives. Is that BS or what? Not only that but the so called trans filter (which I understand is just a screen and really doesn't need replacing) sells for $102 and the gasket sells for $32 is that crazy or what. A flush with filter and gasket goes for $350 or if just a flush $178. The parts guy also says that if you use any other ATF you run the risk of ruining the trans. Auto Zone sells filter for $16.39 and the gasket for $8.99, but nothing as far as ATF T-IV. Can anybody elaborate on this? Is it safe to use Toyota T-IV ?
I would bet that NUMMI didn't use separate barrels for the matrix and the vibe when filling fluids. Seeing as every part under that hood is a Toyota part, I'm guessing the Toyota fluids are more than good for them. Now, I'm not an expert, so, if by some odd reason you use the Toyota fluids and your car dies a horrible death, I just want to cover my buttocks by saying that I'd research a bit more on this one.
Should be safe, search around -- pretty sure that plenty have tried Toyota T-IV here. That's what I plan on using when I need to change the fluid in ours.
Keep in mind all GM did a lot of the time was repackage Toyota parts -- and of course apply the customary 5000% markup...

What better forum then the Vibe forum to find out whether it's safe to use Toyota ATF T-IV on the Vibe. I'm sure there's got to be plenty who have gone this route. Just wondering if they have experienced any problems.
I have done 2 drain & refills with the T-IV fluid. No problems here @ 135K. I think i paid 6 bucks a qt.

You should be able to. The trannys are the same. GM dealer probably wants to take advantage that Pontiac and the Vibe are no more, and like ColonelPanic mentioned wants to profit.
I have on 2 occasions gone to a GM dealership and purchased Toyota T-IV for my Vibe transmission. They buy it by the case in Toyota packaging! It's the only thing that I'll use in my Vibe and my Matrix XR.
