New 2009 Vibe Owner

Hello everyone. I just picked up a 2009 Vibe, black 2.4L w/ auto 5 spd with 69K, to replace my 2003 Mazda Trib that met a deer with a death wish. I sold the boat so I don't need to tow 3000+ # any more, but I'm a DIYer so I still need to haul my two wheel trailer, pick up lumber, tools, etc. I think the Vibe is going to work out perfect for me.

It looks like there is a lot of experience here, I'm hoping to get answers to a few questions.

PS Got confused and posted this in the Garage, I'm reposting here.

Welcome! This is a great group of guys and ladies on here that know a lot about our cars. Plus these cars are great for doing what you are looking for. Can't quite haul a full 4x8 sheet of wood or sheetrock like my Mustang, (LOL!) but hey, they do a great job otherwise.

You can strap them to the roof? Lol. just kidding. Welcome!! You will find that all of our members are very knowledgeable as far as their vibes and most all questions can be answered on this forum. I love the forum!!

Actually, I can squeeze a 4x8 sheet in the hatch at one point in the opening with about 3/4" to spare. With the rear seats folded down, I get about 5' inside the car and only 3' sticking out the hatch. Good enough to get it home! The stang was our only vehicle for about 6 years, so you learn to make it work.

Here she is! Finally figured out how to embed a photo. I was looking for a Vibe/Matrix to act as kind of a mini SUV to tow my two wheel trailer and be able to haul some tools, but now that I have it I really like the looks! I think it looks a lot better than the Matrix front trim. It's got the 2.4L engine with the 5 speed and the 17" Al wheels. It's also got power windows and locks and the XM radio, but didn't those come standard starting in 2009?

Wait a minute.... You got a 48 inch wide board into a Vibe? What year is your Vibe? Is the board stiff or flexible or bendable?

In a 2009 Vibe maybe if I remove the plastic around the opening. I would love to get a 4 x 4 plywood in there. But I will be happy to put 32 inch wide into it plus the 16 inch slice.

I like to also welcome you to this great site. I to have the 2009 Vibe. If you have the fold forward front seat. you can get a number of 8 foot long lumber in the vibe. Just rap the ends with towels so you don't scratch the plastic, the back of the seat, and the dash. I believe you will get a 2'-8" door panel in there as well.
I also place 10 foot PVC pipes through the passenger window.

Welcome. I am also a new owner of a Vibe and still familiarizing myself with it. Great car and a great site. I downsized from a GMC Envoy that was totaled in May.

No, not in either of my Vibes, but in my 87 Mustang hatchback (see bold text above). It was our only car for about 6 years, and I've hauled all kinds of things in it. Two swivel rockers, dishwasher, 1'x16' long siding (10 pieces), and sheets of plywood and sheetrock several times, but only one piece at a time!

FYI, you also can haul an 8' step ladder inside the Vibe with the hatch closed
