Causes of blown front Crank Seal.......

Post by burrpenick »

Replaced mine at 114K and 155K. Started to wonder why. I've been adding about a half quart of oil to the standard 4qts since mine uses some anyway, so hoped that extra oil was not the culpret. I also changed the PCV around 85K and just pulled it again. It still rattles but I am not sure if its any tighter than a new one or not. So, I ordered one from NAPA today- turns out they are less than ADVANCED AUTO, by a significant amount. Looks like the discount parts houses are doing the bait and switch thing now that they have expanded and gotten our business.
Is there any other ENGINE BREATHING FILTER/VALVE that I should be inspecting/replacing in order to make sure the crankcase pressure in the engine is not building up and causing problems? PS: I have not had any other oil leaks beside that crank seal.

at that mileage there might be a ridge worn into the crank snout by the old seal so installing a new seal won't make a difference. you should try to get some emery cloth to try to even out the wear.
