euro style side marker lights

Post by passtimik »

I was thinking of installing euro style side marker lights. I think it would add a nice touch. Anyone do that yet? Any positive comments or ideas? Maybe on the front fender above the wheel back by the opening before the front door crack.

My dad had to do it when exporting a Matrix to EU. You have to cut holes in your fenders. I wouldn't do it.Can't believe I even have a crappy picture of it...

While it would be nice to have the added turn signal function on the sides of the Vibe, I definitely wouldn't want to cut holes in my fenders .

What you're thinking of doing would look great! I plan on doing something similar BUT will be placing marker lights, along with puddle lamps, brake & turn lamps into the side mirrors on both doors. This way there will be illumination/indication of the side of your vehicle and also it can be done as a simple CLEAN add-on to the car. Side markers on most other cars require cutting into the fender/door and that would not be good. Let us know what you end up doing if anything at all ....................... ;)

That is exactly what we did when we were exporting the Voltz to Japan, actually we punched the holes, not cut them. The same fenders were used for both the Vibe and Voltz. When a Voltz fender went in the jig to weld the top bracket on, a hole was also punched for the side marker.
While it can be good looking, it is obviously permanent.

Good luck!

I agree with a mirror install. I'm doing mine in my mirrors, but, mine are going inside the mirrors for a different look. Borrowing the idea from a how to on matrix owners. I liked the look of the mod.

IMakeVibes beat me to it, but I was gonna say..
The Voltz had them and I think it looked pretty good.
Just dont get some HUGE gaudy chrome ones.
Something stealthy would be killer tho

Sorry guys ! Completely forgot about posting here. This was not a huge project, just alot of measuring and remeasuring and then a little more, just to make sure I was getting them as close to symetrical as possible. Next came a commitment, that there was no going back from, drilling a 7/8 inch hole in a perfectly good fender. I got over it quickly, because I love the look of them. I have had them on for 6 years now and they have a fair amount of stress fractures and they occasinally condensate. I am in the process of finding suitable replacements which will be Smoked and of the LED variety but still in the Arrowhead shape. These are actually a European Focus universal replacement. I got them off of ebay UK and at the time I think I paid $ 28.00 . There are several places that will ship to the states and its not overly expensive. Search for "Side repeaters" Good luck to anyone that does this. I have some pics of mine during the process. I could make a How To if there is enough demand, or just send me a msg and I'll square you away.
