Removing only passenger side rear seat? (2006)

Post by mugsy »

Hello! New to the community.

My 3-piece band is going on tour this summer in my vibe. To facilitate the amount of room we have for gear and personal belongings, instead of just folding down the passenger side rear seat, I'd like to remove it entirely. Is this possible on my 06 Vibe? Looked at a few other threads on here from other years and it seems that the whole bench comes out as one piece.

Thanks in advance, everybody!

Welcome welcome! You won't get too much more space without the seat, but here's a thread made by Brandon on removing the entire interior, down to the carpet.

Hi Kitt!

I saw Brandon's thread, but it doesn't really answer my question: is it possible to remove one seat but not the other? I can see the amount of space it will give me, and it's actually going to be enough to make a difference.

The rear seat is once whole piece, so unfortunately no. But the front seats can come out individually. What you can do for the rear seat is remove only one half of the 60/40 split-fold seatback. But the bottom, as far as I know, stays as one piece.

Hmm. When I unbolt the floor brackets for the rear bench (as if to just clean underneath) , they seem to be able to move individually. I'll have to do a little re-evaluating here. Thanks!

The rear seats do come out individually. I've had just the driver's side rear seat out. There are 4 bolts per seat that you need to remove, it's actually a very simple process.

The seat-back and bottom cushion come out together as a unit.

Interesting. This must have been one of the many changes from 1st gen to 2ng gen. We've had our rear seat(s) totally out of our '09 Vibe and the rear seat base is ONE complete bench piece, whereas the seat backs are individual.

I seem to remember that the rear seats came out each side.

When I did the soundproofing I took some pics.
You may get some idea of the actual space available.

Here is the link to that thread.

Hey, the seats DO, I repeat DO come out one side at a time.
You can choose to leave the 60 or the 40 in, whichever side you want
Just follow the tutorial on whichever side you want removed :D

Sort of shifting the topic, but I find it a shame that GM/Toyota didn't spend the minor amount of $$$ needed to do that soundproofing. One of the shortcomings of the Vibe/Matrix has always been that it is not a very quiet cabin. Perhaps they did some of that in the 2nd gen as my '09 seems to be more quiet than my '03.

My 2009 Vibe is very noisy. Tire and road noise are the greatest.

Does not give you the quiet sounds during the quiet times of the music.
