HVAC QUEST

Post by joecat66 »

My wife forced the dial (i guess it froze -up) that regulates the cabin temp from hot to cold...red to blue as she was turning it clockwise to cool. now the car has full time heat and no ac. The ac lights compressor/recirculator etc are all functioning as is the blower. It just won't blow cold to overcome the heat. I managed to get the hvac cabin panel off hoping the knob was stripped and it is not, it turns freely and moves what it connects to, but does nothing! Any idea what could be stuck or stripped???

I haven't looked at the Vibe AC system in detail, but on most cars the knob moves a cable that adjusts a "blend door" that routes the air either through the AC evaporator or heater core or a combination of the two to achieve the desired temperature air. Most likely the cable is disconnected from the lever that controls the blend door or the connection is broken.

Found this diagram on http://www.gmpartsdirect.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I believe the blend door parts are 6 - 11. Most likely one of them are disconnected or broken. Just remove the glove box and look under the dash to find where the end of the cable is.

But this diagram shoes a temp valve as part # 15-17 in the blower case. Not sure which is the correct one.

viewtopic.php?t=1004" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a picture of the temp cable end, which is on the left of the front passenger area, knee or mid calf high (depending on how tall you are)
