2003 Vibe - very slow refueling

Post by 455SD »

Just wanted to pass on a bit of information about this issue. This may or may not affect 2nd Gen Vibes, but definitely the 1st Gens. My daughters Vibe started experiencing this two weeks ago, and I just now got a chance to get it up on the rack to look the evap system out. Turns out there is an open vent tube coming from the charcoal cannister, that had a spider web with insect cadaver in it.
This blockage caused the system to not allow the system to allow for proper air flow, causing air pressure to "push back" against the filler opening.
Long story short - if you are experiencing this slow fill problem, check for blockages in this open vent tube - at the charcoal cannister. Critters like to make it their home.

Thanks for posting. This is the reason why this is such a great site. I dont post as often as I used to but I usually check daily for new issues ( and fixes ) that I may run into in the future.

Them damm insects  We need them on this planet BUT not messing around with our modern mechanical stuff :o Any vent, for that matter, should never be blocked or serious consequences could follow. Dryer vents plugged= your house burns down. Gas grill orifices plugged = instant hair loss  (it's really not funny but I witnessed this happening to a friend of mine and he literally singes all his hair!) Natural gas meter regulator vent plugged = slow or NO operation of high demand appliances (furnace, boiler, etc.). High efficiency furnace/boiler/water heater PVC vent plugged = no heat! Keep an eye on all these and others and stay safe. Oh, like the others mentioned, nice find and thanks for sharing it with us GenVibers ;)
