Roof top bike carrier (more problems)

Post by Chris_W »

Still trying to find a solution that works for me. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=3878 Presently I have the GM Utility Bars and GM Bike Carrier. The only way I can get these two components to work together is to mount the carrier at the very end of the Utility Bars. I purchased these several months apart after unsuccessfully trying to fit other Thule products onto the GM Utility Bars. Not sure if GM redesigned one or the other. Here's my question:I remember seeing here on GenVibe some roof-top system that mounted to the Vibe's aluminum rails rather than the adjustable lateral bars. Can anyone point me to that posting? I think it's my last hope before I give up and get some sort of hitch rack. Thanks for everyone's previous suggestions. (I don't want the bike inside -- on camping excusions everything else goes in there.)

Thanks Phil and Scott,For some reason I thought that the Yakima roof rack system for the Vibe required mounts in front of the factory rack. Your (Phil's) car looks good with that rack.In checking the Yakima web site, I found this disclaimer:"Rear hatch will interfere with some accessories. Use caution when opening." Do you have any hatch interference with your bike loaded using the anklebiter deuce bike mounts?I appreciate your help.

Yes...i would have clearance issues with any other model of bike rack...steel heads or copper heads would need to be mounted backwards....but the anklebiter duece mount is as far as i know, the only mount that you can use normally and have no interfererence....be careful though...it comes real close and if you dont have it mounted at the front of the side rails then the hatch will hit the back of the trays and as i found out....leaves a small dent! (Doh!)

Great -- thanks again to both of you (Phil and Scott) for the info. That equipment should hopefully work for me.
