2008 Rear Wiper Cap

Post by w00tastic »

I posed this question in the Maintenance forum, but didn't seem to get alot of traffic. Thought I would move the topic here and see if it faired any better. Sorry for being a pain :?

When I bought my Vibe last year I noticed that the rear wiper cap was missing, but didn't make a huge fuss over it since I was already getting a good deal, however, now i'm ready to fix this and i'm having some trouble finding this part. I have spoke to one gentleman before and he said it would be around 30 bucks to replace it, but I just feel that maybe a little steep. That's why I wanted to check with you my fellow Vibe owners and see what your thoughts were on the subject.

The piece in question is in the following picture...I found it on the net, but it also looks like it was from this forum haha.

Any help is super appreciated...Thanks guys! :D

You could check around local salvage yards for Vibe or Matrix cars and try to get the cap off one of them. It'd be a lot less, since the counter-guy only sees a cheapy plastic bit. It might also be worth checking out other Toyota and Scion cars of that era for a similar cap. Toyota profusely uses the same parts in multiple cars, so while the blade length could be off the cap might be the same.

hahaa, yeah that's me in the pic :lol:

It's super easy to take off.

I actually gave mine to Persephone on here. (She's also on Facebook)

I don't think she needed it,
she just bought the wiper motor from me and I gave her the WHOLE assembly since I Pulled mine off

She may just have that piece still....I'd hit her up and see if she'll sell it

Here's the thread that pic you posted came from.

A tutorial on how to completely remove your rear wiper assembly for a flush look ;)

According to the parts list website I use it is part #88969933 selling for $26.42
http://parts.nalleygmc.com/showAssembly ... lYear=2008" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However if you get the same part from Toyota it is $4.65

http://www.trademotion.com/parts/2008/T ... am=8440625" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It looks like you can get a new one cheap at the Toyota dealer

Kitt and Journey: You guys were right on...I called the Toyota dealership down the street and told them I wanted a cap for a 2008 Matrix and unlike the quotes for the Vibe version he quoted me 7 bucks and I can pick it up tomorrow. I'm embarrassed I didn't think of this myself, but for some reason it just never came to mind. I was going to do the junk yard option, but they are so hard to get to from where I live currently...However, I have been in contact with a few in the past looking for original undamaged Pontiac alloy wheels...Tough to find them undamaged though.

A Psycho Martyr: That's awesome that it was your picture haha. I did consider the flush look but decided I like my wiper, but I did look over your tutorial and it was very awesome!

Thanks for the help you guys! I will update you as to the success of my order and install tomorrow. :D

Realized I never replied to this.

The cap worked out great. Snapped right into place, surprised me at how flimsy the plastic really was, but hey...It works! :D
